S.S.S. Intrepid

(Sea Scout Ship 8, Boy Scouts of America)

Ship 8 has been in existence since 1992 and focuses on sailing and the skills needed to be safe and have fun on the water. We have several small sailboats and one 33-foot cruising boat that are used in our sailing program. The summer months typically include a longer sailing cruise.

Sea Scouts includes an advancement program that allows youth to progress at their own rate as they learn and demonstrate various seamanship skills. As a coed program for those at least 14 and less than 21 years old, it provides many opportunities to develop leadership skills and work with others toward common goals.

Sea Scouts provides an opportunity for youth to have fun, learn about and develop a love of the sea in a safe and responsible manner, and enhance character, citizenship and fitness. It also offers many challenges and excitement through a program of sailing and other activities such as navigation, safety, communication, mechanics, weather, and piloting.
